Island Community
My Activities in our PEI Community
Although I am new to the PEI real estate business, I was born here and have lived here for most of my life. I grew up in Summerside, PEI, went to school here, started my career here and raised a family here. I have been very fortunate in my life and I believe that it is very important to give back to the community that has been such an important part of my life for many years.
"PEI Real Estate" is the business that I am in, but the buying and selling of real estate is so much more than just a business. It is said that the three most important things in PEI real estate are location, location and location and this is very true. Location, however, is not just about location within the community. It is also about the community itself and one of the best ways to increase the value of your PEI real estate is to work to make your community a better "location". PEI in general and Summerside in particular are envied for the strength of our community. We have natural assets and resources. We have valuable infrastructure. We have economic opportunity. We have access to healthcare, education, the arts, and recreation. We are recognized nationally for our community pride. All of these things make Summerside a wonderful place in which to live but we still have room for improvement.
Currently I am Secretary of the Rotary Club of Summerside and will be Vice President in 2011-12. I have been an active Rotarian for over twenty years and strongly believe in its goals of achieving world peace, fellowship and understanding between all peoples. Rotary International is active around the world but has also accomplished a great deal within the Summerside and greater PEI communities. In Summerside, the Rotary Friendship Park, the Rotary Regional Library and the Community Connections Facility have all come about through the significant efforts of local Rotarians. For more information on the good work of Rotary around the world, go to www.rotary.org.
I am also currently the Chair of the Holland College Foundation. Holland College is the Community College of Prince Edward Island and provides technical and trades training to thousands of students each year in campus locations in many different island communities. The Holland College Foundation is responsible for the raising and stewardship of endowment, scholarship and bursary funds on behalf of the College. For more information on Holland College, please visit www.hollandcollege.com.
These are my two main activities outside of work but I also support the Prince County Hospital Foundation and the local branch of the Salvation Army for all of the terrific work they do for our community.
For fun in the summertime, I belong to the Summerside Yacht Club and in the winter I like to attend the games of the Summerside Western Capitals, our local junior hockey team.
Summerside, PEI is a wonderful community and I encourage everyone to get involved to make it an even better one. Not only will you have fun and do good work for others, but you’ll even enjoy the unexpected reward of making your PEI real estate investment more valuable.
